Prefazione alla terza edizioneCITOLOGIA ISTOLOGIA costituisce la terza edizione dell’opera che scrisse originariamente nostro padre, Professor Emilio Casasco (1922- 2000), medico radiologo, docente di Anatomia e di Istologia ed Embriologia, al quale siamo devotamente grati. Ha lasciato ai suoi figli un’eredità culturale (oltre che spirituale e affettiva) che abbiamo deciso di riproporre a voi attraverso l’aggiornamento della sua opera. Come scrisse nella prefazione al testo originale lo stimolo è il medesimo: “Il rapido evolversi delle nostre conoscenze nell’ambito della disciplina istologica e l’esigenza di un sempre maggior impegno di studio hanno portato alla necessità non solo di uno scrupoloso aggiornamento, ma anche di un ampliamento alla trattazione degli argomenti già presi in considerazione nella precedente edizione”. “Usare il cervello e vivacizzare la fantasia”, così usava dire. Lo studio citoistologico è sempre più complesso e affascinante, soprattutto in riferimento all’enorme ampliamento delle conoscenze nel campo della genetica e della biologia molecolare e allo sviluppo delle più moderne biotecnologie di analisi, in vivo e in vitro.Ancora oggi la conoscenza dei tessuti normali (Istologia normale) costituisce la base per la comprensione dell’organizzazione degli organi (Anatomia microscopica) e delle variazioni che si osservano nei tessuti patologici (Istologia patologica). Inoltre, l’apprendimento scientifico dei processi istogenetici ed istofunzionali fornisce informazioni essenziali in molteplici ambiti di ricerca, fra i quali la rigenerazione dei tessuti e la guarigione degli organi, la terapia e l’ingegneria tissutale, la risposta cellulare a farmaci e agenti esterni, le embriofetopatie, la cancerogenesi, la nutrizione e l’invecchiamento dell’organismo. Questa nuova edizione, pur mantenendo l’identità culturale delle precedenti, aggiorna i suoi contenuti dalle più recenti scoperte scientifiche nel campo citoistologico ed affianca una nuova e ampliata iconografia, compresa una inedita sintesi cognitiva delle due materie rappresentata in un allegato cartaceo. Grande riconoscenza dobbiamo al dr. The first edition of The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology introduced a completely new paradigm for detecting bladder cancer by urine cytology. This system concentrated on defining morphological characteristics of the most clinically significant form of bladder cancer, High Grade Urothelial Carcinoma. This new approach has been widely accepted throughout the world, and has become part of the daily practice of cytology. Considering that the first edition of The Paris System (TPS) introduced a new model of urinary cytodiagnosis, verification and expansion of initial material and data were anticipated. A pochi anni dalla precedente esce questa edizione del Volume Istologia Umana, rinnovata nella sua veste grafica e rivista in quelle che erano le incongruenze e/o ripetizioni presenti. Questo testo si avvale del contributo di numerosi Colleghi che grazie alla loro esperienza didattica e di ricerca hanno affrontato le tematiche Istologiche in un contesto moderno e innovativo.I primi due capitoli sono dedicati ai principi e alle principali tecniche di indagine in Citologia e Istologia, conservando non solo le informazioni relative alla storia dello studio morfologico, ma proponendo anche tecniche più nuove che fanno dell’imaging di precisione, della ricostruzione 3D e della microscopia dinamica le nuove frontiere dell’Istologia.È stata rivista la parte di Citologia, cercando di fare in modo che gli argomenti descritti rappresentino uno stimolo per la comprensione delle caratteristiche generali delle cellule, del loro differenziamento e della loro organizzazione morfo-funzionale per la costituzione dei tessuti e degli organi.
