Digital Histology
An Interactive CD Atlas with Review Text
Alice S. Pakurar , John W. Bigbee
editore: Wiley-Blackwell (an imprint of John Wiley & Sons Ltd)
pagine: 264
Both a book and CD-ROM multimedia resource, Digital Histology provides a complete introduction to histology. Superbly clear and thoroughly labeled images and illustrations complement the text's elegant navigation structure. This new second edition contains over 1,200 light and electron microscopic images (almost 500 more images than in the first edition), each with superimposable labels and descriptive legends. While the printed book provides a handy, consistently structured outline for students (and teachers) review of key issues in the study of human histology, the CD-ROM is an interactive, annotated digital color atlas of micrographs.
Fine-Needle Biopsy of Superficial and Deep Masses
Interventional Approach and Interpretation Methodology by Pattern Recognition
Giorgio Gherardi
editore: Springer Verlag
pagine: 208
Needle biopsy is a simple, reliable, inexpensive, well tolerated, and minimally invasive procedure for the diagnosis of tumors both in superficial and deep sites. In the new scenario determined by a more conservative approach to tumor treatment, and in the era of 'tailored' or 'targeted' oncological therapies the use of this technique is expected to increase dramatically for the diagnosis of neoplasia in all different phases of the disease. The efficacy of needle biopsy is, however, strongly influenced by the experience of the physician performing the technique and by the pathologist's attitude towards the interpretation of such minimal cellular harvest. Aim of this volume is to provide all possible clues for the optimization of the needle biopsy diagnosis. By using a problem-oriented approach, the best interventional maneuver and sample triage will be described for all types of lesions, and the interpretation of all possible cytological findings will be supported by the pattern analysis methodology. The reader will be guided to pattern recognition in the cellular sample and to provide the most correct interpretation, based on the integration with clinical and preanalytical data.

Atlas of Pancreatic Cytopathology with Histopathologic Correlations
Ralph H. Hruban
,
Syed Z. Ali
e altri
editore: Demos Medical Publishing
pagine: 208
Although there are a number of publications including pancreatic cytopathology, there is a void in current pathology literature for a practical and well-illustrated atlas. The atlas contains 450 high-resolution images (including images of the histopathologic and radiologic features of the lesions, which makes this volume equally attractive to cytopathologists and surgical pathologists alike). Clinical and radiologic examinations cannot reliably distinguish benign or inflammatory pancreatic disease from carcinoma. The increased use of pancreatic fine needle aspiration (FNA) along with advances in imaging techniques and the introduction of endoscopic ultrasound guidance have led to significantly better detection and recognition of pancreatic masses. Consequently, pancreatic cytopathology is integral to accurate pre-operative diagnosis-yet it is a challenging diagnostic area with a variety of potential pitfalls and 'look-alike' lesions. Skillful recognition and an awareness of the limitations of the procedure are essential in avoiding mis diagnosis of these dangerous lesions.
"Atlas of Pancreatic Cytopathology with Histopathologic Correlations" fills a void in current pathology literature. With 450 high-resolution images, including images of histopathologic and radiologic features, this practical atlas presents an integrated approach to diagnostic cytopathology that will help physician cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, and pathologists avoid potential pitfalls and 'look-alike' lesions. Written by recognized experts in the field, the extensive high-resolution color images of the characteristic features of pancreatic disease are presented with detailed descriptions that cover classic features, diagnostic clues, and potential pitfalls. "Atlas of Pancreatic Cytopathology with Histopathologic Correlations" is a valuable resource for the seasoned cytopathologist, general and surgical pathologists, pathology trainees, and cytotechnologists.

Diagnostic Histochemistry
Mark R. Wick
editore: Cambridge
pagine: 472
Pathology is an inherently subjective discipline, and therefore is often referred to as both an art and a science. Over the years, laboratory physicians have implemented special tissue stains and molecular techniques to limit subjectivity in the discipline. Beginning in the late 19th century, histochemical stains were developed to assess diagnostic biochemical reactions in tissue. Histochemistry has recently seen a resurgence in popularity because of the higher costs of other newer methods. Today, this technique is used by almost every pathology laboratory across the world. This book comprehensively covers all diseases for which that technique plays a central role in diagnosis. Every anatomic region is covered in detail with examples of appropriate staining techniques, and the book is heavily illustrated with over 850 color photomicrographs. This is the first monograph to be published on histochemistry in 15 years, and it is the only one that is diagnostically-oriented.

Medical Cell Biology
Steven R. Goodman
editore: Academic Press Inc
pagine: 336
This Third Edition of "Medical Cell Biology" focuses on the scientific aspects of cell biology important to medical students, dental students, veterinary students, and prehealth undergraduates. Maintaining a primary focus on eukaryotic cell biology, the text explains general cell biology principles in the context of organ systems and human and animal disease. It contains 60 percent new material! The new topics include: Apoptosis and cell death from a neural perspective; Signal transduction as it relates to normal and abnormal heart function; and, Cell cycle and cell division related to cancer biology. It includes all new clinical cases. It serves as a prep guide to the National Medical Board Exam with a CD-ROM of 200 sample board-style questions (using Exam Master[registered] technology). It focuses on eukaryotic cell biology as it related to human disease, thus making the subject more accessible to pre-med and pre-health students.
