PrefazioneQuando avevo dieci anni, conobbi il pugile Muhammad Ali. Eravamo all’aeroporto O’Hare di Chicago quando mio padre si chinò e mi sussurrò: “Andy, guarda”. “Il più Grande” stava camminando dritto verso di me (credo di essermi bloccato sul posto). La sua mano gigante inghiottì la mia mentre disse: “Piacere di conoscerti”. Continuò per la sua strada e io non mi lavai la mano per una settimana. Quell’estate riempii di stracci il vecchio sacco dell’esercito di mio padre e lo appesi al ramo di un albero. Ogni giorno uscivo per dare pugni alla sacca come il campione. Sebbene il mio programma di allenamento per la boxe non sia durato tutta l’estate, riflettei molto su quel fortuito incontro all’O’Hare mentre scrivevo questo libro. Sul ring, Ali personificava agilità, equilibrio e forza – la trinità del movimento umano. In effetti la tecnica fotografica a suo tempo utilizzata, ideata personalmente da Zaccaria Fumagalli, è consistita nella trasposizione all’anatomia macroscopica (in epoca pre-digitale) di metodi di ripresa utilizzati per la fotografia dei diamanti. Questa tecnica innovativa, abbinata all’impiego di particolari obiettivi fotografici, ha consentito la ripresa di dissezioni sempre a fuoco sui vari piani e praticamente prive di riflessi, superando in tal modo i ben noti problemi tecnici che normalmente compaiono nella fotografia dei tessuti bagnati. Come già fece lo stesso Zaccaria Fumagalli nella presentazione della prima edizione dell’atlante, è doveroso ricordare in questa sede l’apporto determinante offerto anche dagli altri Autori (i Proff. Giulio Marinozzi, Enzo Nesci, Agatino Santoro, al tempo stretti collaboratori di Z. Fumagalli) nella realizzazione delle preparazioni anatomiche. A queste ha collaborato attivamente anche il Dr. Enrico Margaritondo, al tempo frequentatore dell’Istituto anatomico dell’Università “La Sapienza”. Rispetto all’edizione precedente, questa nuova versione dell’atlante si presenta in una veste più snella, con un testo estremamente sintetico e con nuovi disegni ideati per una migliore comprensione delle immagini fotografiche; ciò sempre al fine di offrire al lettore le basi dell’anatomia macroscopica esposte con un indirizzo pratico e soprattutto realistico. Inoltre, alla fine di alcuni capitoli, sono state mantenute sintetiche note di dissezione che possono risultare utili come linee guida sia nella pratica dissettoria sia nel semplice studio teorico delle strutture anatomiche. In quest’ottica obiettivo del sottoscritto e degli altri Colleghi curatori di questa nuova edizione è stato quello di realizzare un Atlante che, integrato anche con immagini radiografiche (TAC, RMN, etc.), oltre a servire allo studente di medicina, possa rappresentare un’opera di utile consultazione anche per il medico e per il chirurgo. Questa nuova versione dell’atlante ha richiesto un notevole impegno non solo da parte del sottoscritto, ma anche degli altri curatori dell’opera, che desidero ringraziare vivamente per il contributo offerto. Anche a loro nome, vorrei rivolgere un particolare ringraziamento al Dr. Nicola Piccin, che ha incoraggiato e seguito con passione ed anche con utili consigli, la realizzazione del nostro lavoro. Inoltre, nell’ambito dello staff della casa Editrice Piccin, desidero ringraziare il Dr. Marco Marzola per l’eccezionale lavoro editoriale svolto ed il Sig.
