Jonathan Cohen

editore: John Wiley & Sons Inc

pagine: 424

Previous Edition won First Prize in the Gastroenterology category of the 2008 BMA Medical Book Competition High-resolution endoscopy and narrowband imaging have revolutionized the field. Edited by a gastroenterologist with a reputation for delivering outstanding material, this new edition of an award-winning atlas provides you with an outstanding collection of images, videos and expert diagnostic guidance to enhance your decision making. To accelerate your learning, Dr. Cohen offers more than 2000 endoscopic images, emphasizing conditions for which NBI is particularly useful such as finding dysplasia in Barrett s mucosa, and diagnosing adenomatous colon polyps and providing exceptional preparation for the future of endoscopy practice, with a broad new look at normal and abnormal findings throughout the GI tract. The book is divided into three main parts: The basics of NBI Clinical applications of NBI Atlas of 2000 color images, broken into sections on the pharynx and esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and colon, including correlating histopathology and multiple examples of key pathologies The accompanying website features more than 80 video clips containing over 3 hours of annotated video, to give you a complete sense of how HRE and NBI work and look in real time, including during therapeutic procedures. All of the over 1000 new images appear in much brighter color, reflecting the advance in scope technology since the first edition. New chapters have been added to present the data supporting increased use of NBI in optical diagnosis and in the context of therapeutic procedures. For the first time, brilliant images of the bile duct and pancreas are included as the imaging revolution has expanded to reach these new locations. This spectacular new imaging modality promises to enhance endoscopic decision making in real time, facilitate therapeutic maneuvers, make tissue sampling more precise and make resection of mucosal neoplasia more complete. Expertly guiding you through the latest advances, this book facilitates your mastery of the field, and provides an up-to-date reference for gastroenterologists and endoscopists to improve their practice. www.wiley.com/go/gastroenterology

MR Enterography

Alfredo Blandino, Silvio Mazziotti

editore: Springer Verlag

pagine: 161

In recent years, there has been huge interest in developing new methods that offer improved accuracy for the detection of small bowel pathology, and in particular for the assessment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Cross-sectional imaging, such as CT and MR, has advantages over traditional barium fluoroscopic techniques in terms of direct visualization of the bowel wall and improved visualization of extraluminal findings and complications. This means a complete change in the diagnostic approach to the patient with IBD: from analysis of the bowel surface to direct evaluation of parietal alterations and assessment of peri and extraintestinal involvement. The ideal imaging test is reproducible, well tolerated by patients and, above all, free of ionizing radiation. MR enterography, currently performed only in a few reference centers, meets these criteria and offers accurate diagnosis, particularly in respect of the wide spectrum of intra and extraintestinal complications of IBD. This book provides a thorough overview of the indications, techniques, diagnostic advantages and limitations of MR enterography. Particular attention is paid to patient preparation in relation to the particular study type and to the potential advantages of the most up-to-date MR studies in specific cases, e.g., allergy or renal failure. A separate chapter is devoted to MR of perianal region for the detection and staging of perianal fistula, a common complication in patients with Crohn's disease. Numerous high-quality illustrations are included and help to ensure that the book will be a valuable source of information for every radiologist involved in abdominal MR imaging.

Gastrointestinal Tract Imaging

An Evidence-Based Practice Guide

Julie Nightingale, Robert Law

editore: Churchill Livingstone

pagine: 436

The last decade has seen enormous upheaval within all aspects of health care, and the gastrointestinal/ gastroenterology (GI) service has been no exception. Increasing demand for new and established diagnostic and interventional procedures has encouraged innovative models of service delivery, resulting in a range of health professionals crossing traditional practice boundaries. In particular, nurses and radiographers have seized the opportunity to develop their scope of practice, managing a range of procedures including colonoscopy, barium studies and CT colonography. This has, in many cases, freed both radiologists and gastroenterologists to take on new roles in the interventional service. The development of new procedures and new ways of working has promoted a renewed enthusiasm for critical evaluation of the GI service as a whole. As practitioners and clinicians learn new skills and extend their scope of practice it is essential that they have a thorough understanding of the basis of safe, effective and evidence based practice. This book offers the reader a detailed overview of the range of imaging procedures that may be employed in the investigation of gastrointestinal tract pathology, and explores current practice related to the subsequent patient care pathways and treatment options. It has been designed as a detailed reference guide for all health professionals who have a direct involvement in the GI tract and its imaging, including those who may be referring patients for GI radiological investigation, those professionals who are performing and subsequently reporting the procedures, and the clinicians responsible for the subsequent patient management. This book offers a unique insight into the rapidly changing radiology service, and offers introductory chapters which provide the fundamental underpinning knowledge required for safe and effective GI practice. Subsequent chapters discuss the evidence base related to a range of imaging procedures suitable for investigation of upper and lower GI symptoms, supported by key pathology chapters. The book also explores the range of treatments available for the more common GI tract pathology.
