Neuroanestesia

Essentials of Pediatric Neuroanesthesia

a cura di Sulpicio G. Soriano, Craig D. McClain

editore: Cambridge University Press

pagine: 204

Due to the differences in the neurophysiology and cranial development of infants and children, the anesthetist's approach to the pediatric neurosurgical patient cannot simply be modelled on that for adults. Infants and children undergoing anesthesia for neurosurgical procedures therefore present unique challenges for the anesthetist. Essentials of Pediatric Neuroanesthesia is a practical guide to best practice in managing the perioperative care of pediatric neurosurgical patients, providing comprehensive information on the techniques to administer anesthesia and sedation to this vulnerable patient group. The chapters, written by leading experts, highlight clinical pearls as well as key recommended references, providing rapid access to vital information in the care of the pediatric neurosurgical patient. It is the first book of its kind to be dedicated solely to neuroanesthesia for pediatric patients, making it an essential read for both experienced and trainee pediatric anesthetists and neuroanesthetists.

Neuroanesthesia and Cerebrospinal Protection

Hiroyuki Uchino, Kazuo Ushijima
e altri

editore: Springer Verlag, Japan

pagine: 725

This book is a knowledge-based text that covers the anatomy, neurophysiology, and neuropharmacology needed to carry out the necessary management and cerebrospinal protection during neuroanesthesia. Especially to make the subject of neuroanesthesia more approachable, we introduce surgical measures utilized in neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, neuromodulation, and related procedures. The main purpose of neuroanesthesia/neurocritical care is to deliver cerebrospinal protection in neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgeries. How should we select the best anesthetic management to prevent neurological complications for patients who, for instance, undergo different types of surgery for subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke, head trauma, carotid endarterectomy, or cardiovascular surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass? These pathological conditions include the risk of transient cerebrospinal ischemia, and if our management is not precise, it may induce serious neurological sequelae. Although there is an urgent need to establish the treatment and elucidate the molecular mechanisms of cerebrospinal injury, many components are intertwined, making this a challenge we have not completely solved yet. This volume makes the management of neuroanesthesia more accessible not only for primary residents but also for specialists, providing a valuable resource on the current perspectives of neuroanesthesia.

Fundamentals of Neuroanesthesia

A Physiologic Approach to Clinical Practice

Ira J. Rampil, Keith J. Ruskin
e altri

editore: Oxford University Press Inc

pagine: 384

Neurosurgical procedures are becoming more common and are taking place in the operating room and in interventional suites. Procedures that used to be performed only at major academic institutions are also being done in small community hospitals, and anesthesiologists in private practice are being asked to care for these patients. In many cases, treatment options are controversial or rapidly evolving. Close cooperation between the anesthesiologist and neurosurgeon is essential to achieve optimal outcomes and early recognition of any adverse events so appropriate therapy can be implemented. Fundamentals of Neuroanesthesia is a comprehensive guide to neuroanesthesia that discusses neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, and neurosurgical procedures and offers practical approaches and solutions to administering neuroanesthesia and providing perioperative care for neurosurgical patients. Chapters emphasize clinical management of neurosurgical problems that may be encountered in community practice as well as major academic medical centers. Highlighted key points, figures, algorithms, and management procedures supplement the text. This book is a must-have volume for general anesthesiologists, anesthesiology fellows, and subspecialists.

Neurocritical Care

A Practical Guide

Michel T. Torbey

editore: Cambridge University Press

pagine: 440

Very few hospitals have dedicated neurointensive care units for management of critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients. Topics in Neuroanaesthesia and Intensive Care

Experimental and Clinical Studies Upon Cerebral Circulation, Metabolism and Intracranial Pressure

Bent L. Dahl, George E. Cold

editore: Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. K

pagine: 430

The science of neuroanaesthesia and neurointensive care is fascinating, and the amounts of experimental and clinical studies are overwhelming. Surely, everyone can surf Medline and other database systems in order to get information. If you, however, ask for head injury, cerebral ischaemia or barbiturate, you will get hun- dreds, may be thousands of titles and even the same number of abstracts. The aims of this book are to review important experimental and clinical data with emphasis on up-dated references. The text within each issue and sub-issue systematically covers experimental and clinical data separately, and details con- cerning cerebral blood flow, cerebral metabolism, intracranial pressure etc. are reviewed accordingly. In our survey of the literature we did not use Medline or other database sys- tems systematically. Rather, we used available medical journals which covered the topics of anaesthesia, neuroanaesthesia and neurointensive care. In this way we hope that relevant literature is presented. On the other hand, we cannot exclude that some important issues are omitted. The book covers 12 topics. In three chapters methodology of CBF measure- ments, regulation of CBF, and intracranial pressure are described. In the next 6 chapters inhalation anaesthetics, hypnotic agents, analgesics, muscular relaxants, drugs used for control of blood pressure, and the sitting position are reviewed. The last three chapters cover head injury, subarachnoid haemorrhage and cere- bral ischaemia.
