Essa fornisce le informazioni essenziali dello sviluppo normale e patologico. Come già fatto precedentemente, anche in questa edizione le informazioni cliniche sono state evidenziate in verde (spesso identifi cate come “tabelle ad orientamento clinico”). Ogni capitolo è stato aggiornato profondamente includendo le più recenti evidenze sperimentali ed i relativi signifi cati clinici, così come le nuove conoscenze relative alla biologia dello sviluppo.Questa edizione rispetta la nomenclatura ufficiale internazionale dei termini embriologici (Terminologia Embryonica 2013). Una volta fecondato, l'uovo di un organismo superiore si suddivide in migliaia di cellule che si organizzano a formare i tessuti dell'embrione.
