Anatomia microscopica. Con note funzionali e cliniche

editore: Edises

pagine: 444

Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry, and Molecular Genetics for Hematologic Neoplasms

Tsieh Sun

editore: Lippincott Williams and Wilkins

pagine: 432

Immunophenotyping is the most powerful tool in the routine diagnosis of hematologic neoplasms. Immunohistochemical technique is used in histology labs for this purpose, while flow cytometry is used in clinical labs. While separately these 2 techniques are very useful in detecting lymphomas and leukemias, the combination of both creates a very powerful and definitive diagnostic tool. The addition of molecular genetics to the book will make it an all-encompassing reference text.

Orell and Sterrett's Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology

Gregory F. Sterrett , Svante R. Orell

editore: Churchill Livingstone

pagine: 512

This is a major revision of the leading textbook of FNA cytology. Both text and illustrations provide a systematic and logical approach to the acquisition, interpretation and diagnosis of Fine Needle Aspirate biopsy specimens. "Orell's FNA Cytology" will assist in establishing diagnostic criteria and results in the examination of benign and malignant condition in all body systems where the technique is currently applied. The information is always presented in a clinical context: it details the role of FNA and other ancillary techniques in the investigative sequence (the cytological findings are always set in the context of the patient's clinical history, physical exam and other laboratory tests). It gives practical, technical advice on how to obtain good smears and alerts the reader as to possible diagnostic pitfalls and complications. The contents are organized in a framework of anatomical regions (rather than histopathological classifications) in order to reflect the way problems present in clinical practice. Each chapter is divided into two parts: the first deals with indications, accuracy, techniques and complications; the second illustrates the cytological patterns and their implication. Both common and rare conditions are covered.

The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology

Definitions, Criteria and Explanatory Notes

Edmund S. Cibas , Syed Z. Ali

editore: Springer Verlag New York Inc.

pagine: 188

This atlas is the offspring of the "The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Thyroid Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) State of the Science Conference," hosted by the NCI and organized by Dr. Andrea Abati. Preparations for the conference began 18 months earlier with the designation of a steering committee and the establishment of a dedicated, p- manent web site. The meeting took place on October 22 and 23, 2007 in Bethesda, Maryland and was co-moderated by Susan J. Mandel and Edmund S. Cibas. The discussions and conclusions regarding terminology and morphologic criteria 1, 2 from the meeting were summarized in publications by Baloch et al. and form the framework for this atlas. The atlas is organized by the general categories of "Nondiagnostic," "Benign," "Follicular Neoplasm/Suspicious for a Follicular Neoplasm", "Suspicious for Malignancy," and "Malignant," and it includes the defi- tions and morphologic criteria of these categories as set forth by Baloch et al. The majority of the conference participants also agreed on a category of "undetermined significance," which is incorporated in this atlas (Chap. 4). It is critical that the cytopathologist communicate thyroid FNA interpretations to the referring physician in terms that are succinct, unambiguous, and helpful clinically. We recognize that the terminology used here is a flexible framework that can be modified by individual laboratories to meet the needs of their providers and the patients they serve.
