Breast Imaging and Pathologic Correlations

A Pattern-Based Approach

Dianne Georgian-Smith

editore: Lippincott Williams and Wilkins

pagine: 608

Effectively overcome difficult diagnostic challenges with Breast Imaging and Pathologic Correlations: A Pattern-Based Approach. This atlas is based on the morphology of the Birads Lexicon and not the pathology entities. It illustrates the "how" and "why" of breast imaging, whether via mammography or ultrasound and uses a case-based approach to walk you through a wide range of common and uncommon findings and correlates imaging patterns to pathology, helping you build your pattern recognition skills so you can diagnose breast cases with complete confidence. Key features increase your pattern recognition skills thanks to an organization by categories of pathologic presentation (i.e. masses, calcifications, architectural distortion, and other, less common malignant features) rather than by final diagnosis. It helps you to learn to evaluate masses based on shapes and margins, calcifications based on morphology and distribution and not the pathology entities, and distinguish architectural distortion from overlapping tissues. See how to distinguish between benign and malignant possibilities for almost every feature. Master the methodical thought process used by the most experienced radiologists so you can navigate the most challenging imaging findings, avoid diagnostic pitfalls, and provide the early detection patients need to ensure the best outcomes. Navigate the table of contents with ease as it provides a differential diagnosis per morphology. Now with the print edition, enjoy the bundled interactive eBook edition, offering tablet, smartphone, or online access to: complete content with enhanced navigation; a powerful search that pulls results from content in the book, your notes, and even the web. it offers cross-linked pages, references, and more for easy navigation; highlighting tool for easier reference of key content throughout the text; ability to take and share notes with friends and colleagues; and quick reference tabbing to save your favorite content for future use.

Breast Disease Management

A Multidisciplinary Manual

Hugh Bishop, James Harvey
e altri

editore: Oxford University Press

pagine: 264

Breast cancer affects 1 in 10 women and the majority of UK women will attend a breast clinic at least once during their lives. The patient's journey through assessment and management is one that involves a huge range of healthcare professionals, in which the truly multidisciplinary management style required has previously been only sparsely addressed. This book provides a practical guide on how to investigate and manage common breast problems for all members of the breast disease team, whether surgeons, nurses, pathologists or support workers. Its focus is on providing easy access to the most up-to-date evidence, allowing healthcare workers to make the best decisions possible and encouraging a team approach to patient support. 26 chapters cover the whole of the patient journey from assessment through to surgery and adjuvant treatments, giving a practical overview of the whole process of care. The coverage guides the reader from clinical examination and investigation of the breast patient to pre-operative workup and post-operative complication guidance. To enable swift and effective decision-making, clear management plans are provided for common breast problems. The book also includes the latest evidence, guidance and references on breast disease, together with discussions on current controversies in the field including the management of margins, management of the axilla and the evidence surrounding the NHS Breast Screening Programme. Biopsy Interpretation of the Breast

Laura C. Collins, Stuart J. Schnitt

editore: Lippincott Williams and Wilkins

pagine: 512

A practical guide for the diagnostic surgical pathologist, this new edition of "Biopsy Interpretation of the Breast" presents the diverse spectrum of pathologic alterations that occur in the breast in a manner analogous to that in which they are encountered in daily practice. Lesions are grouped together according to their histologic patterns rather than by the traditional benign-malignant categorization in order to simulate the way pathologists face these lesions as they examine microscopic slides on a daily basis. The role of adjunctive studies in solving diagnostic problems in breast pathology is emphasized where appropriate. In addition, the clinical significance and impact on patient management of the various diagnoses are discussed and key clinical and management points highlighted. Features include: lesions grouped by histologic patterns to simulate real-world experience; many sections updated to reflect the most recent advances in the field; more than 550 color images, including over 100 new images, highlight key pathologic features and streamline visual diagnosis; bulleted tables summarize key diagnostic features of various lesions; and a concise, convenient format that serves as a practical reference and diagnostic guide for pathologists. Included with the companion web site: fully searchable text; more than 300 full-color images; and test bank that is ideal for board exam preparation.

Management of Breast Diseases

Ismail Jatoi, Manfred Kaufmann

editore: Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. K

pagine: 684

In 2002, Lippincott published the Manual of Breast Diseases, edited by Professor Ismail Jatoi. The current book, Management of Breast Diseases, is an adaptation of that manual, with Professor Manfred Kaufmann of the Goethe-University of Frankfurt serving as co-editor. Most of the chapters from the original manual have been either extensively revised or discarded, and several new chapters added. This text contains more material than the original manual, but it is still intended as a basic guide for the wide spectrum of clinicians (surgeons, gynecologists, oncologists, radiation onco- gists, internists, general practitioners) who treat breast diseases, both benign and malignant. To compile this text, we assembled experts from throughout the world. Thus, this text provides not only a broad overview of breast diseases, but also highlights diff- ent perspectives from different parts of the world. Yet, it is worth noting that the management of breast cancer is now largely predicated on evidence-based medicine. Several large, randomized prospective trials have demonstrated the ef? cacy of breast cancer screening and chemoprevention. Other large trials have addressed the impact of systemic therapy, radiotherapy, and variations in local therapy on breast cancer mortality. Many of these landmark trials are discussed in this text, and they clearly have had a bene? cial effect. Indeed, since about 1990, breast cancer mortality rates have declined substantially in most industrialized countries, and this trend is expected to continue in the years ahead.

editore: Minerva Medica

pagine: 336

Preneoplasia of the Breast

A New Conceptual Approach to Proliferative Breast Disease

Werner Boecker

editore: Saunders (W.B.) Co Ltd

pagine: 608

Safe and accurate preoperative diagnosis of breast lesions is crucial to spare patients unnecessary, disfiguring operations. "Prenoeoplasia of the Breast" covers the clinical, radiological and histological diagnosis of benign proliferative breast disease and precursor lesions of breast cancer. It focuses on a new immunohistochemical method based on an innovative progenitor cell concept of breast epithelium that has been developed by Prof. Boecker, Prof. Schnitt and Prof. Silverstein. This technique can also be used for small samples (percutaneous core biopsy) and offers high specificity, and, therefore, provides a greater degree of diagnostic security. The practical applicability and interpretation of the technique are integrated into a comprehensive description of all benign and malignant noninvasive proliferative diseases of the breast, including: interpretation of histologic samples attained by stereotactic biopsy (including immunohistochemistry); comparison of radiologic and pathologic findings; and, action to be taken in the case of in-situ malignoma Treatment of DICS.

Breast Calcification

A Diagnostic Manual

Andy Evans, Ian Ellis
e altri

editore: Greenwich Medical Media Ltd

pagine: 208

Screening for breast cancer is now an accepted part of healthcare practice in many parts of the world. However, the advent of mass screening has brought with it the need for rapid and accurate diagnosis. Breast calcifications in particular are commonly misinterpreted, and definitive diagnosis of whether such calcifications represent benign or malignant conditions is extremely difficult, as the calcifications can easily be missed, or their shape (which is critical in diagnosis) misinterpreted. This book aims to provide a practical understanding to the diagnosis and treatment of breast calcification and will be essential reading for all members of the breast screening team, including pathologists, radiologists and surgeons. The multidisciplinary group of authors first cover in detail the main main pathologies that present with calcification, and go on to describe the techniques of fine needle aspiration and core biopsy and large bore biopsy sampling of tissue, reporting procedures, radiological management of calcification and clinical aspects of the diagnosis of breast calcification. The second part of the book looks at some of the most recently adopted methodologies for diagnosis such as high frequency ultrasound, computer aided diagnosis and the roles of MRI and synchrotron radiation.
