Il rapido esaurimento della precedente edizione e le successive pressanti richieste dell’utenza ci hanno costretti ad anticipare l’uscita di una nuova edizione del Manuale-Prontuario, che presenta comunque rilevanti novità. Nella decima edizione del Manuale-Prontuario di Diagnostica e Terapia Medica sono stati aggiunti nuovi importanti argomenti che in testi analoghi sono spesso assenti e demandati a testi specialistici. In particolare, viene affrontata la profilassi, lo screening e la diagnostica delle più comuni neoplasie, pur senza trattarne la terapia che è di pretta competenza oncologica o multidisciplinare. Inoltre, sono stati aggiunti nuovi argomenti quali ad esempio la malattia infiammatoria pelvica (che rientra nella diagnosi differenziale di molte condizioni acute addominali), o il deterioramento cognitivo lieve (condizione che ha da poco assunto una propria netta autonomia rispetto alle demenze). Nell’insieme, il volume propone un approccio alla diagnostica e alla terapia delle principali malattie internistiche al contempo rigoroso e pratico, basato sulle necessità reali del medico. Un medico che vuole arrivare alla diagnosi, utilizzando insieme alla semeiotica, metodiche strumentali ragionevolmente accessibili (non teoriche e futuribili spesso decantate ma il più delle volte inaccessibili) e che al contempo non vuole rischiare la sottovalutazione di patologie severe correlate a segni o sintomi apparentemente banali. Inoltre, l’impostazione della terapia non concede nulla a quanto di non validato o addirittura di antiscientifico circoli (purtroppo) in certi ambienti e nella rete, rifacendosi invece sempre al metodo scientifico, via maestra da affiancare sempre alle doti umane del pari indispensabili per la nostra professione. Il rigore nella selezione delle sole terapie validate nelle linee guida internazionali rimane quindi uno dei punti fermi dell’opera. Anche le terapie di uso prevalentemente ospedaliero vengono descritte in modo sufficientemente dettagliato per consentirne la consultazione anche a chi operi in questo ambito. Ancora una volta, dunque, un’opera di rapida consultazione ma anche di rigoroso aggiornamento nella quotidiana attività del medico di famiglia e dell’internista.
