An updated, essential guide for the laboratory diagnosis of haemoglobin disorders
This revised and updated third edition of Haemoglobinopathy Diagnosis offers a comprehensive review of the practical information needed for an understanding of the laboratory diagnosis of haemoglobin disorders. Written in a concise and approachable format, the book includes an overview of clinical and laboratory features of these disorders. The author focuses on the selection, performance, and interpretation of the tests that are offered by the majority of diagnostic laboratories. The book also explains when more specialist tests are required and explores what specialist referral centres will accomplish. The information on diagnosis is set in a clinical context.
The third edition is written by a leading haematologist with a reputation for educational excellence. Designed as a practical resource, the book is filled with illustrative examples and helpful questions that can aide in the retention of the material presented. Additionally, the author includes information on the most recent advances in the field. This important text:
* Contains a practical, highly illustrated, approach to the laboratory diagnosis of haemoglobin disorders
* Includes "test-yourself" questions and provides an indispensable tool for learning and teaching
* Presents new material on antenatal screening/prenatal diagnostic services
* Offers myriad self-assessment case studies that are ideal for the trainee
Written for trainees and residents in haematology, practicing haematologists, and laboratory scientists, Haemoglobinopathy Diagnosis is an essential reference and learning tool that provides a clear basis for understanding the diagnosis of haemoglobin disorders.
Anemia with Online Resource
Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Management

In light of recent advances in scientific understanding, this textbook provides a comprehensive yet focused guide to anemia, the most common hematologic malady in medicine. This authoritative, clinical resource covers the scientific basis of the many forms of anemia, while offering a practical approach to prognosis, diagnosis and management. Chapters cover a multitude of topics, ranging from the basic components and physiologic functions, to secondary anemias and transfusion therapy. Modern in approach, this text also looks ahead to new and innovative methodologies. With recommended treatment plans and many case studies, this heavily-illustrated book is essential reading for hematologists and oncologists. In providing a pathophysiologic context, it is also of interest to nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical students in the field. This book provides access to an online version on Cambridge Core, which can be accessed via the code printed on the inside of the cover.
Recombinant Human Erythropoietin (Rhepo) in Clinical Oncology
Scientific and Clinical Aspects of Anemia in Cancer
M. R. Nowrousian
editore: SPRINGER VERLAG GMBH
pagine: 511
Anemia is a frequent complication of cancer and its treatment. A number of clinical studies shows that the impact of anemia is much greater than previously thought. Beyond clinical symptoms, anemia significantly impairs physical and metabolic functions as well as patients' activity, well-being and quality of life. Life expectancy is also affected. In this book, written by a group of outstanding international experts, the current knowledge on anemia in cancer and its treatment with rhEPO is presented and future developments are discussed. Based on a broad spectrum of topics, the book describes the scientific and clinical aspects of anemia in various fields of oncology and gives diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations on when and how to use rhEPO. The book will serve as an authentic and essential source of information for radiotherapists, oncologists, hematologists, internists, pediatricians, surgeons, specialists in transfusion or laboratory medicine and pharmacologists.
Clinical Aspects and Laboratory. Iron Metabolism, Anemias
Novel Concepts in the Anemias of Malignancies and Renal and Rheumatoid Diseases

Disturbances of iron metabolism, particularly iron deficiency, are among the most commonly overlooked or misinterpreted diseases. This is due to the fact that the determination of transport iron in serum or plasma, which used to be the test in conventional diagnosis, does not allow a representative estimate of the body's total iron reserves. A proper estimate was formerly possible only by the costly and invasive determination of storage iron in the bone marrow, however, sensitive, well-standardized immuno-chemical methods for the precise determination of the iron storage protein ferritin in plasma are now available. Since the secretion of this protein correctly reflects the iron stores in the majority of cases, these methods permit fast and reliable diagnosis, particularly of iron deficiency conditions. The fact that iron deficiency is so common and is usually simple to treat ought to be well known in the medical world. Even non-iron-determined causes of anemia can now be identified rapidly by highly sensitive, well-standardized immuno-chemical methods.
This book is intended to contribute to a better understanding of the main pathophysiological foundations and diagnostic principles.
