PresentazioneLa nutrizione ha sempre avuto un ruolo importante nella mia carriera di corridore e senza dubbio è stato un fattore chiave che mi ha aiutato a raggiungere le mie migliori prestazioni. Nei primi tempi della mia carriera, c’erano pochissime informazioni affidabili sulla nutrizione sportiva. Come la maggior parte dei corridori, ho dovuto studiare da solo cosa mangiare prima delle gare, i tempi di assunzione del cibo, quanto bere per prepararsi alle gare e anche cosa portare con sé durante le gare più lunghe come la maratona. Questo è stato fatto, in larghissima parte, provando soluzioni diverse, piuttosto che con un piano preciso prestabilito fin da subito. A volte mi è stato difficile avere la giusta glicemia per poter correre bene. A volte mi sentivo anche come se avessi bevuto troppi liquidi e troppo in prossimità della partenza delle gare più brevi. All’inizio della mia carriera ho trovato grande difficoltà nel recuperare tra gli allenamenti troppo difficili. Senza alcuni consigli da parte di esperti, può essere sicuramente molto difficile ottimizzare le strategie di nutrizione. Conosco Anita da molti anni e ho sempre trovato i suoi consigli preziosi. Imparare a sostenere i miei allenamenti ha fatto sì che potessi allenarmi più duramente e recuperare più velocemente, e questo è stato fondamentale nei momenti in cui mi allenavo fino a 100 miglia a settimana o quando ero impegnato in intense sessioni in preparazione dei campionati. Senza una buona alimentazione, gli sportivi sono molto più propensi a farsi male o a contrarre malattie. È un vero peccato vedere atleti fortemente motivati ad allenarsi duramente non poter raggiungere i propri obiettivi a causa di un’alimentazione inadeguata. Anita è assolutamente brillante nel tradurre la scienza complessa in consigli facilmente comprensibili agli atleti. Questo libro è una risorsa fantastica per me. Contiene un’enorme quantità di informazioni supportate dalle evidenze scientifiche.
