Formal Languages and Compilation

Luca Breveglieri, Stefano Crespi Reghizzi
e altri

editore: Springer

This classroom-tested and clearly-written textbook presents a focused guide to the conceptual foundations of compilation, explaining the fundamental principles and algorithms used for defining the syntax of languages, and for implementing simple translators. This significantly updated and expanded third edition has been enhanced with additional coverage of regular expressions, visibly pushdown languages, bottom-up and top-down deterministic parsing algorithms, and new grammar models.Topics and features: describes the principles and methods used in designing syntax-directed applications such as parsing and regular expression matching; covers translations, semantic functions (attribute grammars), and static program analysis by data flow equations; introduces an efficient method for string matching and parsing suitable for ambiguous regular expressions (NEW); presents a focus on extended BNF grammars with their general parser and with LR(1) and LL(1) parsers (NEW); introduces a parallel parsing algorithm that exploits multiple processing threads to speed up syntax analysis of large files; discusses recent formal models of input-driven automata and languages (NEW); includes extensive use of theoretical models of automata, transducers and formal grammars, and describes all algorithms in pseudocode; contains numerous illustrative examples, and supplies a large set of exercises with solutions at an associated website.Advanced undergraduate and graduate students of computer science will find this reader-friendly textbook to be an invaluable guide to the essential concepts of syntax-directed compilation. The fundamental paradigms of language structures are elegantly explained in terms of the underlying theory, without requiring the use of software tools or knowledge of implementation, and through algorithms simple enough to be practiced by paper and pencil.

Critical Care Sedation

a cura di Angelo Raffaele De Gaudio, Stefano Romagnoli

editore: Springer

pagine: 263

This book provides a comprehensive guide to delivering analgesia and sedation to critically ill patients for professionals and caregivers being involved in the management of these patients. It discusses and explains in detail the advantages and limitations of each drug and device using clear flowcharts, diagrams and tables. Furthermore, it explores the new drugs and - above all - new sedation delivery systems, particularly those for administering volatile anesthetics on ICUs. This book is a valuable and practical resource for anesthesists, intensivists and emergency physicians interested in sedation.

Sepsis Management in Resource-limited Settings

a cura di Arjen M. Dondorp, Martin W. Dunser

editore: Springer

pagine: 216

This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. It constitutes a unique source of knowledge and guidance for all healthcare workers who care for patients with sepsis and septic shock in resource-limited settings. More than eighty percent of the worldwide deaths related to sepsis occur in resource-limited settings in low and middle-income countries. Current international sepsis guidelines cannot be implemented without adaptations towards these settings, mainly because of the difference in local resources and a different spectrum of infectious diseases causing sepsis. This prompted members of the Global Intensive Care working group of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU, Bangkok, Thailand) - among which the Editors - to develop with an international group of experts a comprehensive set of recommendations for the management of sepsis in resource-limited settings. Recommendations are based on both current scientific evidence and clinical experience of clinicians working in resource-limited settings. The book includes an overview chapter outlining the current challenges and future directions of sepsis management as well as general recommendations on the structure and organization of intensive care services in resource-limited settings. Specific recommendations on the recognition and management of patients with sepsis and septic shock in these settings are grouped into seven chapters. The book provides evidence-based practical guidance for doctors in low and middle income countries treating patients with sepsis, and highlights areas for further research and discussion.

Co-existing Diseases and Neuroanesthesia

a cura di Hemanshu Prabhakar, Vasudha Singhal

editore: Springer

pagine: 295

This book provides basic information on neuroanesthesia, comprehensively discussing the brain and spine anatomy, physiology and relevant pharmacology. It also explores various co-existing medical conditions in neurosurgical patients and their medical management relevant to anesthesia, with each problem presented in a standard format. Written by experts in the field and including illustrations, flowcharts and images, each chapter begins with a brief clinical scenario and include the latest evidence-based information. This book is a valuable guide for all anesthetists, not only dedicated neuroanesthetists.

Corrosion Science and Engineering

Pietro Pedeferri

editore: Springer

This textbook discusses the latest advances in the corrosion of metals and related protection methods, and explores all corrosion-related aspects used in natural and industrial environments, including monitoring and testing. Throughout the textbook, the science and engineering of corrosion are merged to help readers perform correct corrosion assessments in both the design phase and plant management phase, and to define the optimal protection technique. In addition, the book addresses basic aspects of corrosion science, including the electrochemical mechanism, thermodynamic and kinetic aspects, the use of Pourbaix and Evans diagrams, and various forms of corrosion (from uniform to localised to stress corrosion phenomena); as well as the protection systems adopted to combat corrosion, including inhibitors, coatings and cathodic protection. Such basic knowledge is fundamental to understanding the “corrosion engineering” approach applied to the durability of metals immersed in water, buried in soil, exposed to the atmosphere, used in reinforced concrete, in the human body and in petrochemical plants, or at risk of high-temperature corrosion. A final chapter is dedicated to the use of statistics in corrosion. All chapters include exercises and practical examples to help students understand, predict, evaluate and mitigate corrosion problems. As such, the book offers the ideal learning resource for all students of corrosion courses in chemical, mechanical, energy and materials engineering at the graduate and advanced undergraduate level, as well as a valuable reference guide for engineers whose work involves real-world applications.

Numerical Mathematics

Texts in applied mathematics

Alfio Quarteroni

editore: Springer

This book provides the mathematical foundations of numerical methods and demonstrates their performance on examples, exercises and real-life applications. This is done using the MATLAB software environment, which allows an easy implementation and testing of the algorithms for any specific class of problems. The book is addressed to students in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences. In the second edition of this extremely popular textbook on numerical analysis, the readability of pictures, tables and program headings has been improved. Several changes in the chapters on iterative methods and on polynomial approximation have also been

Surgical Atlas of Perforator Flaps

A Microsurgical Dissection Technique

Chunlin Hou, Dajiang Song
e altri

editore: Springer

pagine: 229

The aims of this Atlas are to introduce the clinical applications of perforator flaps in plastic surgery and skin replacement. After a brief introduction of the concept and surgical rationale of perforator flaps, the book presents 24 different flaps from donor sites including upper limb, lower limb and the trunk. It shows the surgical dissection techniques of each flap step by step, from vascular anatomy, flap design and elevation to harvest and transfer. The book is composed of operative pictures, drawings and concise interpretation. Written by a group of micro surgeons and hand surgeons working in the fields of orthopedic, trauma, hand, plastic and reconstructive surgery, this Atlas offers a valuable reference work for medical researchers and doctors in microsurgery, orthopedic surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
