This basic, but detailed operative atlas of amputation principles was developed primarily for the junior surgical resident who most often performs these procedures. Each surgery is prefaced by the indications, contraindications, anesthesia to be used, special instruments to be used, and preparation (including draping the patient) for that particular operation. An outline of the surgery and step-by-step illustrations follow, along with the appropriate closure, dressings, and aftercare.
