Imaging of Urogenital Diseases
a cura di L. Olivetti , L. Grazioli
editore: Springer Verlag
pagine: 514
Nowadays, there is tremendous interest in an integrated imaging approach to urogenital diseases. This interest is tightly linked to the recent technological advances in ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine. Significant improvements in image quality have brought numerous clinical and diagnostic benefits to every medical specialty. This book is organized in nine parts and twenty-seven chapters. The first six chapters review the normal macroscopic and radiological anatomy of the urogenital system. In subsequent chapters, urogenital malformations, lithiasis, as well as infectious and neoplastic disorders of the kidneys, bladder, urinary collecting system, and male and female genitalia are extensively discussed. The pathologic, clinical, and diagnostic (instrumental and not) features of each disease are described, with particular emphasis, in neoplastic pathologies, on primitive tumors and disease relapse. The statics and dynamics of the pelvic floor are addressed as well and there is a detailed presentation of state-of-the-art interventional radiology.
The volume stands out in the panorama of the current medical literature by its rich iconography. Over 1000 anatomical illustrations and images, with detailed captions, provide ample evidence of how imaging can guide the therapeutic decision-making process. "Imaging of Urogenital Diseases" is an up-to-date text for radiologists, urologists, gynecologists, and oncologists, but it also certainly provides an invaluable tool for general practitioners. Its succinct, well-reasoned approach integrates old and new knowledge to obtain diagnostic algorithms. This information will direct the clinician to the imaging modality best-suited to yielding the correct diagnosis.

Prostate Cancer
Hedvig Hricak , Peter Scardino
editore: Cambridge
pagine: 242
Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies in men in the Western world. Although a wide range of treatment regimens are available for this disease, there are few evidence-based guidelines for treatment selection. This volume describes the clinical value of imaging for improving not only staging and treatment selection, but also the diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment follow-up for patients with prostate cancer. A multidisciplinary disease management approach is critical in this disease. For the radiologist, understanding the pathophysiology, critical clinical issues, and advantages and limitations of different treatments is essential for meaningful interpretation of imaging studies. Similarly, for the practising clinician, understanding the advantages and limitations of imaging modalities and the importance of optimal technique are crucial to the rational use of imaging. This volume serves as a valuable reference for radiologists, urologists, medical and radiation oncologists and all practitioners involved in the management of prostate cancer.

Carcinoma of the Bladder
David MacVicar
editore: Cambridge
pagine: 194
Bladder cancer is a common and dangerous malignancy which is associated with a variety of known and unknown environmental factors. Clinical management and surgical techniques prioritise detection and treatment of early tumours, which form the majority of newly diagnosed cancers. Imaging is central to establishing the presence of more advanced disease, for which a variety of treatment options exist, including radical curative surgery with or without bladder reconstruction, radiation therapy with curative or palliative intent, and systemic or local chemotherapy. Imaging techniques continue to evolve and this volume explores the relevance of CT with multidetector array, MRI, and computer-based reconstructions such as 'virtual cystoscopy' to treatment choices in today's practice. A review of follow-up strategies and the imaging appearances of treated disease is presented, along with descriptions of modern surgical techniques, radiotherapy and chemotherapy regimens.

editore: Informa Healthcare
pagine: 400
This excellent and superbly illustrated text provides surgical trainees and non specialists with an updated and extensively revised account of the urological disorders of childhood . The second edition reflects the many advances and innovations in paediatric urology since the first edition was published in 2002 and incorporates suggestions and feedback from readers and reviewers of the first edition of Essentials of Paediatric Urology. There are new chapters on "The Child as Patient" that highlights the important differences in the approach to caring for children and adults, and provides clarification on legal and ethical issues concerning consent; and, minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, reflecting the innovative advances in effective patient care; and a new multiple choice question chapter with cross-references to the text, as requested by many readers of the first edition, thus providing an aide-memoire for those undergoing speciality examinations. This popular text was never intended to duplicate the large reference books written primarily for specialists.
Instead it fulfils a unique role as the only textbook of paediatric urology written primarily for trainees and those practising adult urology, paediatric surgery and paediatric urology . The second edition continues to meet this need as well as providing a ready source of reference for non-specialists including paediatricians and nurses. Like the first edition, the new edition is accessible and concise with a visual format characterized by extensive use of colour illustrations, flow charts and diagrams.

Patologie urologiche e attività fisica
G. Pasquale Ganzit , Luca Stefanini
editore: SEEd
pagine: 80
Carcinoma of the Kidney
Uday Patel
editore: Cambridge
pagine: 256
The last two decades have seen ground-shifting changes in the epidemiology, genetics, diagnosis and management of renal cancer. Advances in diagnosis have led to many tumours being identified at an asymptomatic stage. There have also been parallel advances in treatment, such as nephron sparing procedures and radiologically guided ablative procedures. However, these changes have brought with them dilemmas such as our ability to evaluate the nature and aggressiveness of early stage tumours and how best to identify those patients who will benefit most from early treatment. This practical, clinically-oriented volume focuses on these current diagnostic and clinical challenges, making it relevant to all members of the multidisciplinary cancer care team.
Emergencies in Urology
Markus Hohenfellner , Richard A. Santucci
editore: Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. K
pagine: 659
This is a comprehensive textbook covering one of the few remaining blind spots on the map of urological literature. To date only a small number of publications have been dedicated to the topic of urgent and emergent problems in urology, important though they are in everyday clinical medicine. The editors are both internationally recognized urological experts and have made the effort to present an in-depth study into virtually every possible urgent urological situation with which a urologist may be confronted today. Thus the book includes chapters on topics such as urological trauma, urosepsis, urinary obstruction, oncological emergencies, intra- and postoperative complications, acute problems in children, and many more.
