editore: Taylor & Francis Ltd
pagine: 416
All subjects have their canon of literature that should be studied before serious students can advance in their chosen fields. Containing papers carefully compiled not merely for their historical importance but also for their contemporary relevance, Classic Papers in Breast Disease is that resource. A team of experts shares their experience in researching, diagnosing, and treating breast disease. Each chapter contains not just a compilation of papers, but a critical commentary on the papers, their strengths and weaknesses, and their relevance to current practice and research. The commentary, always insightful and straightforward, ranges from theory to practice, from physical to psychological. Each chapter also has a brief introduction to set the scene as the author sees it. All the papers share in common their place as building blocks, as judged by the refraction of history, in the current knowledge base or in current research.

Breast Calcification
A Diagnostic Manual
Andy Evans
,
Ian Ellis

editore: Greenwich Medical Media Ltd
pagine: 208
Screening for breast cancer is now an accepted part of healthcare practice in many parts of the world. However, the advent of mass screening has brought with it the need for rapid and accurate diagnosis. Breast calcifications in particular are commonly misinterpreted, and definitive diagnosis of whether such calcifications represent benign or malignant conditions is extremely difficult, as the calcifications can easily be missed, or their shape (which is critical in diagnosis) misinterpreted. This book aims to provide a practical understanding to the diagnosis and treatment of breast calcification and will be essential reading for all members of the breast screening team, including pathologists, radiologists and surgeons. The multidisciplinary group of authors first cover in detail the main main pathologies that present with calcification, and go on to describe the techniques of fine needle aspiration and core biopsy and large bore biopsy sampling of tissue, reporting procedures, radiological management of calcification and clinical aspects of the diagnosis of breast calcification.
The second part of the book looks at some of the most recently adopted methodologies for diagnosis such as high frequency ultrasound, computer aided diagnosis and the roles of MRI and synchrotron radiation.

Teaching Atlas of Mammography

Peter Dean
e altri
editore: Thieme Publishing Group
pagine: 312
The names Tabar and Dean are associated with high-quality mammography worldwide. In this fourth edition of the bestselling Teaching Atlas of Mammography, readers are again invited to share in the authors experience of analyzing and evaluating mammograms. Their systematic approach not only instills a full understanding of the principles of mammography but also provides the requisite knowledge and tools to arrive at a highly accurate differential diagnosis. Rather than starting with the diagnosis and demonstrating typical findings, the approach of this atlas is to teach the reader how to analyze the image and reach the correct diagnosis through proper evaluation of the mammographic signs. Prerequisites for the perception and evaluation of the mammographic findings are optimum technique, knowledge of anatomy, and understanding of the pathological processes leading to the mammographic appearances. Special features: * Revised and expanded case studies, based on 40 years of imaging experience, provide instructive long-term follow-up of patients over a period of up to 25 years * Offers a unique comparison of imaging findings with the corresponding large thin-section and subgross thicksection (3D) histologic images to facilitate an understanding of the pathologic processes and the mammographic appearances they lead to* Includes an abundance of coned-down compression views, microfocus magnification views, and specimen radiographs to support the analytic workup Teaching Atlas of Mammography and the Breast Cancer book series by the same authors are essential for residents in radiology and practicing radiologists who need the highest level of training in the radiologic anatomy of the normal breast and the changes associated with benign and malignant lesions. They will help ensure that all clinicians acquire the optimal technique and knowledge of pathologic processes necessary to reach a correct diagnosis, and achieve the best long-term outcomes for their patients.
Breast MRI
A Case-based Approach
Caren Greenstein , Donna Marie E. Manasseh
editore: Lippincott Williams and Wilkins
pagine: 344
MRI is increasingly being used by radiologists to confirm diagnoses and perform operative procedures of the breast. MRI's contrast between soft tissues in the breast is many times greater than that obtained by plain-film mammography. As opposed to x-rays, which are known to cause damage to cellular DNA, the magnetic fields and radiowaves used with MRI are not known to have any long-term biologic effect. MRI of the breast requires intravenous injection of a contrast agent, which helps highlight breast abnormalities. The American Cancer Society has advised women at high risk for breast cancer to have an MRI. This book, which is a collaboration between an experienced breast imager and a breast surgeon, contains 100 cases and covers high risk screening, extent of disease evaluation, as well as the full range of benign and malignant tumors found in the breast: DCIS, invasive ductal cancers, and invasive lobule cancers. Rare lesions such as phyllodes, mucinous, liposarcomas, and myotiboblastomas are also covered. Pathologic correlations are included where appropriate. This book has a special emphasis on preoperative planning involving MRI and thus may also appeal to surgical oncologists specializing in breast cancer. A companion website offers fully searchable text and images.
Augmentation Mammaplasty
Redefining the Patient and Surgeon Experience
John B. Tebbetts
editore: Mosby
pagine: 616
John B. Tebbetts, MD, a pioneer in the field of breast augmentation, redefines the surgeon/patient experience in this comprehensive book. By exhaustively covering everything you need to know about breast augmentation, Dr. Tebbets allows for tightly focused guidance that is principle- rather than experienced-based, with numerous decision-making algorithms and outcome-based techniques, not just one-answer solutions. The book addresses topics that range from anesthesia and case studies of specific implants to practical matters like practice management. The included DVD is just as broad-based in its approach, containing not just dynamic video clips, but detailed operative scripts, the High FiveTM assessment and decision support system for implant selection and operative planning and the Patient education system for 24 hour recovery.

editore: Thieme Publishing Group
pagine: 484
From one of the world's most renowned mammographers and highly successful authors with Thieme, this book by Laszlo Tabar brings a lifetime of experience in interpreting mammographic images to publication. Here Laszlo Tabar introduces a systematic method, based on his experience in giving courses worldwide, for interpreting mammographic images which, in its thoroughness, greatly reduces the opportunity for missing the most subtle of pathologic findings. The emphasis is on early detection. Where appropriate, pathologic specimens are shown in photographs to illustrate why mammographs appear as they do. This is the ultimate mammographic atlas for the radiologist seeking to increase his or her interpretive skills. No breast imager should be without this book.
