Pathology of Sudden Cardiac Death
B. Edwards , J. Edwards
editore: Wiley-Blackwell (an imprint of John Wiley & Sons Ltd)
pagine: 264
Sudden cardiac death represents a highly heterogeneous group of cardiovascular disorders. While some may initially think of sudden death as primarily an arrhythmogenic event, this actually represents the minority of cases of sudden cardiac death. In the vast majority of cases, there is an underlying anatomic disorder of the cardiovascular system responsible for the ultimate hemodynamic collapse known as sudden cardiac death. This book will provide an atlas type review of ischemic and non-ischemic etiologies of sudden cardiac death. Beyond the atlas, however, will be a "clinical pathologic correlation" for each described disorder providing practicing clinicians with practical information to facilitate proper diagnosis and treatment. While an increasing array of noninvasive diagnostic tools continue to develop, the sad fact remains that many of the physicians and operators of these new diagnostic modalities have never actually seen specimens which demonstrate the fundamental pathologic abnormalities. This ability to see first hand the underlying pathology creates an opportunity to advance the science and enhance ones understanding of these disease processes.
There is not a comprehensive text on this subject on the market today which provides clinical and patholigical material in such a comprehensive manner.

pagine: 496
As an academic subject, nutrition has grown enormously in recent years and with it the need for specialist textbooks on the subject. In response to this need, a decision was taken by The Nutrition Society to produce a ground-breaking series of four textbooks, of which "Clinical Nutrition" is the final. The books in the series: provide students with the required scientific basis in nutrition, in the context of a systems and health approach; enable teachers and students to explore the core principles of nutrition and to apply these throughout their training to foster critical thinking at all times - each chapter identifies the key areas of knowledge that must be understood and also the key points of critical thought that must accompany the acquisition of this knowledge; are fully peer reviewed to ensure completeness and clarity of content, as well as to ensure that each book takes a global perspective and is applicable for use by nutritionists and on nutrition courses throughout the world. "Clinical Nutrition" focuses solely on the sick and metabolically compromised patient.
It parallels the text on Nutrition & Metabolism in dealing with clinical nutrition on a system by system basis making the information more accessible to the student. Covering the scientific basis underlying nutritional support, medical ethics and nutritional counselling, the text ends with illustrative clinical case histories. Nutritionists, dieticians and students in these fields will find this an important resource and Libraries in universities, medical schools and establishments teaching and researching in the area of nutrition will find "Clinical Nutrition" a valuable addition to their shelves.
Neurological Differential Diagnosis
A Prioritized Approach
Christopher Giza
,
Michael Waters
e altri
editore: Wiley-Blackwell (an imprint of John Wiley & Sons Ltd)
pagine: 560
Neurology is primarily characterized by a variety of diseases which seem very similar and are therefore difficult to distinguish between. Skill at differential diagnosis is therefore absolutely paramount. "Neurological Differential Diagnosis" is a streamlined handbook of prioritized differential diagnosis, to be used both in clinical practice and for exam review. By presenting differential diagnosis in order of frequency and importance, this book provides a practical handbook for clinicians in training, as well as a potential resource for quick board review. Whilst the book covers the most important syndromes and disease entities, readers are referred to other texts for more exhaustive differentials. By limiting differentials in this way - to the most likely and most serious diagnoses - the reader can more easily recall relevant disease processes when faced with a particular clinical situation, whether it be a patient in the emergency room or a difficult question on the board examination. The book specifically targets neurology residents and fellows, with overlap to neurosurgery and psychiatry.
Internal medicine physicians with an interest in neurological problems and medical students looking for an edge in clinical neuroscience would also benefit from this text. The content is primarily mid-level material, in a pedagogic format. In order to organize the students' thought processes concise tables and line drawing templates are included. The book is organized into broad chapters by type of disorder and some overlap occurs between particular chapters.
