La caccia è una pratica che si perde nella notte dei tempi, le cui origini risalgono addirittura tra i 2 e i 3 milioni di anni fa. Con il passare dei secoli, però, la sua funzione è cambiata: da mezzo di sostentamento necessario a "disciplina sportiva" o passatempo. Si è creata così una netta divisione: ferventi sostenitori da una parte, accaniti avversari dall'altra. Questo saggio esamina, in tutte le loro contraddizioni, le giustificazioni e i luoghi comuni più diffusi sulla caccia, confutandoli uno a uno: con uno stile limpido, senza giri di parole, affronta i danni che questa attività causa non solo agli animali e alla natura, ma anche a coloro che la praticano (e la subiscono); si sofferma sui suoi aspetti patologici e morbosi; sui suoi eccessi, come il bracconaggio, e illustra cosa prevede la nostra legislazione in materia.
