Noi crediamo che la fisiologia sia la spina dorsale della medicina clinica. In clinica, al pronto soccorso, nel reparto di terapia intensiva o nella sala operatoria, i principi fisiologici sono alla base di qualsiasi azione. Ma troviamo anche un grande appagamento intellettuale nella scienza della fisiologia come mezzo per spiegare gli eleganti meccanismi del nostro corpo. Nell’undicesima edizione della classica monografia di Berne e Levy sulla fisiologia cardiovascolare, abbiamo cercato di trasmettere entrambe le cose.
