editore: Taylor & Francis Ltd
pagine: 576
Completely revised and updated, Textbook of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, Second Edition provides a state-of-the-art overview of the entire field. The first edition of this breakthrough book was very well received by urologists around the world and became the standard reference work on the subject of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). With the constant changes and improvements being made in therapeutics and treatment in general, any book on this important subject needs to be updated frequently. The first edition's original sections have been expanded and, once again, a team of expert editors and contributors ensure that the material presented reflects the latest available information. The editorial panel examines all aspects of the disorder, from pathophysiology to the latest treatments and clinical trials including MTOPS and PREDICT. They explore laser prostatectomy using the holmium laser and a host of other minimally invasive techniques that are seriously challenging standard transurethral resection (TUR) as the gold standard intervention for this disease.
Building on the foundation of the first edition, this second edition will continue to be the quintessential resource on BPH.

editore: Informa Healthcare
pagine: 522
Men die younger and when sick they seek help later. While it is now accepted that many of the causes of premature death in men are potentially remediable by appropriate education, counseling, diagnosis, and therapy, few, if any, inroads have been made in terms of actually closing the mortality gap between the sexes. Why, given the facts, is men's health still so neglected?Taking a comprehensive approach, Men's Health, Second Edition fills a gap in the available literature on specifically male health issues. Completely revised and updated, the second edition covers disease management, maintenance, and prevention. The editors address the full range of men's healthcare problems, ranging from sexual to surgical, medical to psychiatric, and including illness prevention and health maintenance. Like its predecessor, this new edition is intended not only for primary care practitioners, who wrestle everyday with the consequences of ill health among men, but also for specialists such as cardiologists, urologists, and others, who deal with the diseases that afflict men so commonly.
A well-illustrated clinical guide, the textbook is an exhaustive reference on male health from childhood to old age.

Imaging of the Male Genitalia
Dennis L. Cochlin , Matthew D. Rifkin
editore: Informa Healthcare
pagine: 304
Imaging has always played an important part in the diagnosis of the various problems associated with the genitalia and reproductive organs. Diagnostic applications for patients have evolved over past decades, however imaging has not progressed as rapidly for male patients as for female patients. Imaging has now earned a significant place in the diagnostic armory for women. In recent years, there has been increasing awareness of male health issues - in particular the rising incidence of testicular tumors. Inevitably this has resulted in both an increased demand for imaging of the male genitalia and higher expectations of these studies. During the last decade the development of high resolution ultrasound equipment, Doppler and color Doppler have revolutionized the approach to imaging the external genitalia. Contrast radiography and nuclear medicine have been largely replaced by ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Designed as a problem-solving text, Imaging of the Scrotum and Penis employs a symptom-related approach, starting with the clinical history and physical examination, progressing to the appropriate imaging modalities.
It provides both an overview and an in-depth analysis of the various imaging approaches used in the evaluation of diseases of the external male genitalia. The main imaging modality used for the scrotum is ultrasound, and discussion of ultrasound images (including color Doppler studies) comprises the largest part of the book. The place of problem-solving MRI studies and their interpretation is also discussed in great detail together with the more minor roles played by other modalities: isotope studies, CT, plain radiography and angiography. Imaging and applications of the newer imaging techniques that evaluate the penis, the anterior urethra and erectile dysfunction are also evaluated. Generous use is made of flow diagrams and diagnostic tables and the text is comprehensively illustrated. Imaging of the Scrotum and Penis will be of interest to radiologists - especially diagnostic radiologists who must understand the embryology, anatomy, pathology and imaging findings in the variety of clinical problems that can and do affect the male patient.
It will also be of value to urologists, primary care health providers, sonographers and other imaging technologists and assist the referring clinician in deciding which imaging study should be initially ordered - a particularly important issue in the era of cost containment in medicine. Key Features: * Uses a symptom-related approach, starting with the clinical history and physical examination, progressing to the appropriate imaging modalities * Provides both an overview and an in-depth analysis of the various imaging approaches used in the evaluation of diseases of the external male genitalia * Illustrated with over 690 photographs, diagrams and tables
The Prostatitis Manual
A Practical Guide to Management
J. Curtis Nickel
editore: Bladon Medical Publishing
pagine: 180
Unlike other prostate conditions prostatitis usually affects younger or middle-aged men. It can be difficult to eradicate symptoms completely and treatment can last for some time. Prostatitis can be due either to bacterial infection or non-bacterial causes. Prostatitis is seen and managed by a broad range of physicians and surgeons and this book is addressed at a level that is both accessible and useful to the urologist and the family practitioner. The fact remains that the cause of most cases of prostatitis remain unknown but this book sets out to improve the reader's knowledge of all the possible causes and provide a grounding in evaluation, diagnosis, management, and treatment. The book begins with a summary of the history of the condition and an overview of some of the problems and issues facing doctors and patients. Sections 2 and 3 cover etiology and evaluation including a symptom assessment tool and a simple lower urinary tract localization technique. Section 4 provides practical advice on the development of a treatment plan using a 'best evidence' approach. Section 5 summarizes the future prospects in the field of prostatitis management. The Prostatitis Manual incorporates many practical pedagogical features including line diagrams, clinical photos, tables and algorithms. It is an ideal introduction to the condition and its management for the busy GP and a useful aide memoire for the specialist urologist.
Disorders of the Prostate
Fouad K. Habib , M. Briley
editore: Informa Healthcare
pagine: 185
Recent years have witnessed major advances in our understanding of the pathogenesis of benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer at both the molecular and cellular levels. These developments were based essentially on fundamental research which as yet has not be substantially translated into clinical practice. In parallel, however, important breakthroughs have also been made in the development of new treatments with significant implications for the management of these diseases. The Prostate: New Developments and Concepts brings together experts and specialists in the field to review the advances underlying the mechanisms of proliferation and metastasis at the molecular level and chart the future for more effective modalities in the diagnosis and prognosis of prostate disease.
