Il testo raccoglie il materiale presentato al Primo Convegno Nazionale della Rete Italiana degli "Ospedali Amici dei Bambini" (Verona 2002), e commenta i percorsi messi in atto da alcuni Ospedali precursori, di cui individua punti di forza e criticità. Non vuole essere un testo sulla fisiologia, né sui benefici dell'allattamento materno, ampiamente testimoniati da una solida letteratura scientifica, bensì un manuale pratico in quanto contiene indicazioni su come inserire nelle strutture sanitarie le procedure corrette per favorire l'avvio e il proseguimento nel tempo dell'allattamento al seno. Il volume è rivolto ad un pubblico vasto: neonatologi e pediatri, infermieri e ostetriche, psicologi, assistenti sanitari, operatori sociosanitari.

Il volume presenta, in forma sintetica, tutte le informazioni indispensabili che rendono predicibile la sopravvivenza nel tempo degli impianti dentali e, di conseguenza, il loro successo clinico. La formula scelta è quella dell'atlante, con ricchezza di immagini che illustrano le varie metodiche. Il volume è utile al giovane odontoiatra che sì avvicina all'implantologia per la prima volta poiché vi trova raccolte tutte le informazioni necessarie, spesso disperse nella letteratura scientifica. Ma anche coloro che, pur eseguendo l'implantologia da anni, desiderano revisionare il loro protocollo chirurgico alla luce delle più moderne ricerche scientifiche.

Il manuale si pone tre finalità: obiettivare tutte le prestazioni cliniche con modelli di referti; pensare, progettare, costruire e realizzare progetti terapeutici di qualità; organizzare trattamenti multipli con tecniche combinate di più modelli psicoterapeutici per una prassi clinica efficace ed efficiente.

Questo volume, frutto della collaborazione fra clinici e ricercatori dell'istituto Auxologico Italiano e i maggiori esperti italiani di malattie cerebrovascolari, presenta in modo sistematico le dimensioni del fenomeno in Italia, affrontando criticamente gli aggiornamenti tanto sulla prevenzione primaria e secondaria, quanto sulla gestione clinica del paziente nella fase acuta e in quella riabilitativa.
