Concepts and Cases in Nonunion Treatment
Peter Kloen , Ren K. Marti
editore: Thieme Publishing Group
pagine: 980
The gold standard for the treatment of nonunions was set by Weber and Cech in the early 1970s. With this new book the Editors Ren K Marti and Peter Kloen provide a comprehensive update on the state-of-the-art treatment of nonunions. More than 130 case descriptions are included in the unique cases section; the core of this collection represents 40 years of Ren Martis personal experience in nonunion treatment, demonstrating the principle technique over technology. The editors have also carefully selected additional cases, contributed by several experts in nonunion treatment. Each case provides step-by-step descriptions of case history, preoperative planning, surgical approach, reduction, fixation, rehabilitation, and finally pitfalls and pearls. Hundreds of full-color pictures, precise illustrations, and x-rays demonstrate the significant steps in nonunion treatment. In the principles preceding the case presentations relevant information on evolution, basic science aspects, nonoperative treatment, bone graft, as well as infected nonunions is provided. The guidelines and solutions presented for the management of nonunions support orthopaedic and trauma surgeons worldwide.
This book will serve as an invaluable aid for any orthopaedic or trauma surgeon who has to deal with the problem of pseudarthrosis. Norbert P Haas, President of the AO Foundation

Imaging of Vertebral Trauma
Richard H. Daffner
editore: Cambridge
pagine: 242
The imaging methods used to evaluate patients with suspected vertebral injuries have undergone radical changes in the past decade, the most significant being the ascendancy of computed tomography (CT) to become the primary investigative modality. Issues such as high radiation dose associated with CT studies and health care reform and cost containment also have a significant impact on clinical decision-making. This new edition of the classic landmark text for vertebral trauma imaging provides an in-depth discussion on the indications and methods of imaging the spine based on currently available clinical evidence. Every chapter has been extensively revised and the illustrations represent state-of-the-art imaging. A completely new chapter on pediatric injuries has been added. Imaging of Vertebral Trauma, third edition, is an invaluable and essential tool in the assessment of any patient with suspected vertebral or spinal cord injury.

Le fratture di polso
editore: Edizioni Medico-Scientifiche
pagine: 292
Musculoskeletal Trauma
A Guide to Assessment and Diagnosis
Beverly Snaith , Maryann Hardy
editore: Churchill Livingstone
pagine: 360
"Musculoskeletal Trauma: A Guide to Assessment and Diagnosis" is a clinically focused text following patient journey from presentation to diagnosis in musculoskeletal trauma. An understanding of this process is essential to ensure that clinical assessment and diagnostic examinations inform decision making and effectively and efficiently optimize patient care. This text is particularly timely given the increasing blurring of professional boundaries within the emergency care setting and need for practitioners recognise the contribution of all professions to the patient care pathway and enhance interdisciplinary communication. Written by an experienced multiprofessional clinical team, the book systematically guides the practitioner from musculoskeletal injury mechanisms, through clinical presentation and assessment, radiographic imaging and interpretation, to the formulation of a diagnosis. It is a coherent, logical and informative guide to contemporary practice for all emergency health care practitioners. An introduction is provided to the principles of clinical assessment and radiographic technique.
Radiographic images are provided alongside photographs of radiographic positioning to enhance understanding of anatomical relationships and image appearances. In addition, images of both clinical presentation and radiographic features of trauma are provided to enhance understanding of clinical signs and symptoms of trauma and support accurate decision-making. Whilst conventional imaging remains the mainstay for early diagnosis in the emergency department, the contribution of other imaging modalities (in particular CT, MRI & ultrasound) are explored and illustrated with appropriate clinical cases.

Trauma Biomechanics

,
Kai-Uwe Schmitt
e altri
editore: Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. K
pagine: 264
Trauma biomechanics uses the principles of mechanics to study the response and tolerance level of biological tissues under extreme loading conditions. Through an understanding of mechanical factors that influence the function and structure of human tissues, countermeasures can be developed to alleviate or even eliminate such injuries. Trauma Biomechanics surveys a wide variety of topics in injury biomechanics including injury classification, injury mechanisms and injury criteria. Both injuries sustained in automotive accidents and in sports are addressed. The interdisciplinary approach necessary in trauma biomechanics is stressed by showing the span from anatomy for each body region to engineering solutions for protection against injury. Injury tolerance values are listed, either currently in use or proposed by both the U.S. and European countries. Although the book is meant as a first introduction for engineers and medical doctors, sufficient references for scientific research are provided also. This third edition is revised and enlarged. In particular the unique introduction to Sport injuries is improved. In addition, many examples are included into the new edition.

Double Dynamic Martin Srew (DMS)
Karl-Klaus Dittel , Matthias Rapp
editore: Steinkopff Darmstadt
pagine: 212
The scope and importance of hip fractures is almost incomprehensible. With a world wide incidence of close to 2 million cases per year, these fractures pose a daunting challenge to our ability to affect and treat this epidemic. This book discusses basics for operative treatment of proximal and distal femur fractures, such as: clear surgical indication, short planning and preparation, 24 h, full weight bearing osteosynthesis, early mobilisation, and physiotherapy. In comprehensive form the book presents the usage of a meanwhile well installed implant (DMS) for osteosynthesis technique in the peritrochanteric region. The 'double dynamic' stabilization (sliding tongue principle and angle adapted contoured fit) means a state of the art fracture treatment procedure. It is a convincing alternative to achieve a biological osteosynthesis at the femur. The system includes an infinitely adjustable, flexible angle, dynamic plate with a tubular distal part.
