editore: Springer Verlag New York Inc.
pagine: 555
An in-depth analysis of the technical aspects of the most commonly performed laparoscopic procedures, their indications, contraindications, and complications. Heavily illustrated, Laparoscopic Surgery of the Abdomen breaks new ground in visualising operative procedures and problems. Seven sections, comprising the core curriculum of accepted procedures, present gallbladder disease, common bile duct exploration, hernia, colon diseases, anti-reflux procedures, acute abdomen and the role of diagnostic laparoscopy, and emerging procedures on the spleen and adrenals. Recognised leaders in the field tackle each section, emphasising what to do when and how to solve acute situations.
Laparoscopic Urologic Oncology
Jeffrey A. Cadeddu
editore: Humana Press Inc.
pagine: 366
Minimally invasive urologic surgery is revolutionizing how physicians treat many urologic diseases. Laparoscopy in particular has reduced the pain, morbidity, and recovery time for many procedures traditionally per- formed through an open incision. Since laparoscopy is now the preferred modality for many benign conditions, the indications have expanded with the technique, so that it is now applied to the management of most urologic cancers. The aim of Laparoscopic U rolo g ic Oncology is to provide the first com- prehensive textbook dedicated to the minimally invasive management of urologic cancers. The book is not intended to review the biology of urologic tumors, which is well covered in other texts, but rather their management. In particular, it focuses on surgical technique and the role of laparoscopic surgery in the management of these tumors. It also addresses patient con- ditions for which a minimally invasive alternative does not exist. The book is not a surgical atlas, but it does provide a balanced insight into its indica- tions, contraindications, and results.
Furthermore, the authors compare results to conventional open surgery, discuss controversies, and identify the shortcomings of minimally invasive procedures. In particular, such issues as the adequacy of oncologic results and their morbidity are com- pared to those experienced with conventional open techniques. Laparoscopic Urologic Oncology focuses on educating both general urologists and urologic oncologists on the current and future role of laparoscopy and other minimally invasive techniques in urologic oncology.
Retroperitoneoscopy and extraperitoneal laparoscopy in pediatric and adult urology
editore: Springer Verlag
pagine: 239
Laparoscopy and urology are at the frontiers of surgery as techniques are refined to reduce invasiveness and advances are made in video-assisted surgery. More recently the retroperitoneal access to laparoscopy surgery ("retroperitoneoscopy" or "retroperitoneal laparoscopy") opened a new surgical approach to several diagnostic and operative procedures for a large number of urogenital tract diseases. The applications in pediatric and adult medicine and the technical challenges still facing clinicians are the subject of much debate, and this volume aims to give a complete overview of the techniques and issues. The book addresses urologists, general and abdominal surgeons, pediatric urologists and pediatric surgeons who are interested in minimally invasive procedures and particularly in retroperitoneal laparoscopy.
Laparoscopy in Children
Felix Schier
editore: Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. K
pagine: 156
Many children are operated on by surgeons who are not pediatric specialists. And many of these surgeons are familiar with minimally invasive techniques, yet hesitate to conduct laparoscopy in young patients. This book provides the knowledge they require and gives technical advice concerning the performance of the most frequent laparoscopic procedures in small children. The text provides a step-by-step approach and technical guide with little text and many instructive drawings. Diagnostic criteria are also discussed.
Staging Laparoscopy
K. C. P. Conlon , P. Hohenberger
editore: Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. K
pagine: 198
Laparoscopy in combination with laparoscopic ultrasonography is a new staging procedure for tumors of the abdomen. The treatment of several other tumor entities, such as pancreatic and gastric cancer, lymphoma, ovarian cancer, liver malignancies, is also improved by more accurate staging. Laparoscopic staging helps prevent unnecessary laparotomies, provides much less trauma to the patient, maximum information on tumor spread, and enables palliative procedures to be performed during the staging procedure. This book provides detailed guidelines on the aim and technique of laparoscopic staging and discusses the pathophysiological aspects and risks of laparoscopic staging (such as trocar metastases) on the basis of international experience.
Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair
Salvador Morales-Conde
editore: Springer Editions
pagine: 558
Primary and incisional ventral hernias are common conditions often encountered in surgical practice. Because of the frequency of this problem it has come to be managed by surgeons in general, regardless of the type of hospital or the conditions dealt with in their daily practice. Laparoscopic surgery has demonstrated to have an important role among the different technique described to repair ventral hernia with less recurrent rate, less morbidity and less overall cost than open conventional repair, with all the advange of the laparoscopic approach. As a result the indications for this surgical technique are currently being debated since the advantages are evident and progressive implementation is ensured. Now is the time to analyze the usefulness, results, technical variants, anatomic, physiologic and scientific basis and implications involved in implementation of laparoscopy as the technique of choice.
