Nowadays, there is tremendous interest in an integrated imaging approach to urogenital diseases. This interest is tightly linked to the recent technological advances in ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine. Significant improvements in image quality have brought numerous clinical and diagnostic benefits to every medical specialty. This book is organized in nine parts and twenty-seven chapters. The first six chapters review the normal macroscopic and radiological anatomy of the urogenital system. In subsequent chapters, urogenital malformations, lithiasis, as well as infectious and neoplastic disorders of the kidneys, bladder, urinary collecting system, and male and female genitalia are extensively discussed. The pathologic, clinical, and diagnostic (instrumental and not) features of each disease are described, with particular emphasis, in neoplastic pathologies, on primitive tumors and disease relapse. The statics and dynamics of the pelvic floor are addressed as well and there is a detailed presentation of state-of-the-art interventional radiology. La terza edizione del manuale di ecografia ginecologica vuole conservare lo spirito originale dell'opera: offrire ai radiologi nozioni di clinica e ai ginecologi elementi di radiologia aggiornata. L'opera comprende grandi capitoli che riguardano la tecnica di esame, l'anatomia ecografica della pelvi, la fisiologia e la fisiopatologia dell'apparato genitale (periodo prepubere, ciclo ovarico ed endometriale, menopausa), la contraccezione (pillola e IUD), la patologia tumorale e infettiva, la gravidanza (intra ed extrauterina), le malformazioni genitali. L'aggiornamento riguarda tutto l'insieme degli argomenti, con le integrazioni riguardanti le tecniche nuove (color-Doppler, modalità 3D, isterosonografia) e le nuove conoscenze (disturbi ovulatori, endometriosi ed adenomiosi, procreazione assistita, ecc). Le immagini a colori sono state aggiornate ed integrate nel testo, per offrire una lettura migliore. L'aspetto pratico resta una priorità. I dati clinici e terapeutici sono integrati all'interpretazione dell'immagine. Il ruolo dell'esame ecografico è ben definito nel contesto degli altri esami della pelvi femminile e di altri elementi paraclinici. In breve, gli autori hanno cercato, senza voler peccare di immodestia, di scrivere un manuale di "istruzioni per l'uso" dell'ecografia pelvica.
