The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to the principles of drug treatment for solid tumours in cancer medicine. Developments in the understanding of tumour biology, molecular biology and genetics - together with the greater understanding of the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of drugs - have combined to open up the field of medical oncology to rapid advances in the treatment of cancers. The range of drugs that are available is wide and one of the primary aims in drug development is to increase the therapeutic window so that drug toxicity is minimised and tolerable. Drug development of oral formulations of anticancer drugs and the use of drugs that could be given in the day patient setting means that healthcare professionals such as general practitioners - who historically might not have been involved in the drug treatment of the cancer patient - are now going to need to have a greater understanding of the principles of use of anticancer drugs. This book is primarily aimed at this market.

This core textbook in pharmacology presents basic pharmacologic principles along with the mechanism of action and side effects of drugs commonly seen in physical therapy practice. Chapters are organized using a systems approach with each section beginning with the pathophysiology of disease and continuing with a discussion of the drug groups used for treatment. Sections end with a discussion about how drugs affect physical therapy intervention and how physical therapy may affect drug effectiveness. Adverse drug reactions are reviewed and the therapist is then counseled on the appropriate emergency or non-emergency intervention necessary. Dallo studio su una grande Asl della Lombardia si possono avere risposte esaurienti e costruire scenari per il prossimo futuro. In questa Asl, gli anziani, che sono il 16% della popolazione, assorbono il 47% della spesa farmaceutica. In generale, chi acquista farmaci sono i malati cronici (16% della popolazione e 64% della spesa), la cui domanda è rigida al variare del ticket. Mentre la maggioranza degli assistiti fa un uso saltuario delle medicine e presenta consumi elastici al prezzo-ticket.

Giunta alla quinta edizione, questa iniziativa promossa e coordinata dal Nobile Collegio Universitas Aromatariorum mantiene il suo scopo originario di fornire un contributo all'aggiornamento professionale e scientifico del farmacista. Le monografie, preparate da medici e farmacisti, spaziano da argomenti di grande attualità come quelli relativi all'alimentazione o al tasso alcolemico, per i quali il farmacista "deve" essere preparato alle domande dei suoi clienti-pazienti, ad altri relativi a ricerche più innovative e complesse.

È pertanto necessario il ricorso ai metodi spettrofotometrici, dall’ultravioletto ed infrarosso di cui sono sottolineate le informazioni di carattere quali-quantitativo, a quelli più evoluti di risonanza magnetica nucleare e spettrometria di massa, che sono stati illustrati anche nelle applicazioni più avanzate e risolutive.Nello sviluppo delle tecniche cromatografiche, oltre alla trattazione dei principi teorici che ne regolano i processi, trovano dettagliata illustrazione la gascromatografia (GC) e la cromatografia liquida ad alta prestazione (HPLC). La HPLC, di grande versatilità ed elevata efficienza, trova impiego in svariati settori di lavoro e ricerca, permettendo numerose utilizzazioni per la caratterizzazione analitica dei principi attivi, come tali o all’interno di una formulazione farmaceutica. Inoltre queste tecniche, accoppiate alla spettrometria di massa, costituiscono lo strumento più avanzato in campo farmaceutico per l’ampia possibilità applicativa in termini di versatilità, sensibilità e specificità.
