Rapid ECG Interpretation

M. Gabriel Khan

editore: Saunders (W.B.) Co Ltd

pagine: 352

Dr Khan has improved upon the first edition and written a clear and concise step-by-step method for the accurate interpretation of the ECG. Noted for the unique 11-step method for accurate and rapid ECG interpretation, this new edition includes more diagnostic tips for the understanding of ECGs. New to this edition is a series of illustrations to explain the genesis of wave and deflection of the ECG. In addition, a clear description of 12 lead positioning and interpretation guides the reader to greater understanding of the potential pitfalls of the ECG. This edition includes over 230 illustrations, including 30 new tracings to elucidate difficult points. It also addresses the progress of cardiovascular practice and how the ECG is important to current clinical practice, including early diagnosis of acute MI, and a greater understanding of ST segment in diagnosing cardiovascular problems.

The ECG in Acute Myocardial Infarction and Unstable Angina

Anton M. Gorgels , Hein J. J. Wellens
e altri

editore: Kluwer Academic Publishers

pagine: 141

The electrocardiogram (ECG) remains the most accessible and inexpensive diagnostic tool to evaluate the patient presenting with symptoms suggestive of acute myocardial ischemia. It plays a crucial role in decision making about the aggressiveness of therapy especially in relation to reperfusion therapy, because such therapy has resulted in a considerable reduction in mortality from acute myocardial infarction. Several factors play a role in the amount of myocardial tissue that can be salvaged by reperfusion therapy, such as the time interval between onset of coronary occlusion and reperfusion, site and size of the jeopardized area, type of reperfusion attempt (thrombolytic agent or an intracoronary catheter intervention), presence or absence of risk factors for thrombolytic agents, etc. Most important in decision making on reperfusion therapy and the type of intervention is to look for markers indicating a higher mortality rate from myocardial infarction. The ECG is a reliable, inexpensive, non-invasive instrument to obtain that information. Recently it has become clear that both in anterior and inferior myocardial infarction, the ECG frequently allows not only to identify the infarct related coronary artery, but also the site of occlusion in that artery and therefore the size of the jeopardized area. Obviously, the more proximal the occlusion, the larger the area at risk and the more aggressive the reperfusion attempt.

Flip and See ECG

Elizabeth Gross Cohn , Mary Gilroy-Doohan

editore: Saunders (W.B.) Co Ltd

pagine: 176

This simple, innovative method for understanding and interpreting 3-lead ECG readings is now revised and updated. Complex concepts are presented in a fun, engaging format that uses humour, cartoons, and personal stories to guide the reader through the entire ECG process, from finding a heart beat, taking an electrocardiogram, interpreting the patients heart rhythm to understanding how to treat the patient. Commonly asked questions and answers are interspersed throughout the text to help clarify concepts and procedures. Building on basic concepts presented in the first part of the book, the second part teaches readers how to interpret 25 common dysrhythmias and provides the description and treatment of each. The sample ECG strips can be studied as a whole, or separated at a perforation to create over 260 different ECG rhythms.

Il linguaggio elettrocardiografico. Manuale di autoapprendimento

Franco Gemelli

editore: Minerva Medica

pagine: 122

Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology

Southwest Germany in the Late Paleolithic and Mesolithic

Edward Carmeliet , Johan Vereecke

editore: Kluwer Academic Publishers

pagine: 433

Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology is intended for the clinical cardiologist who wishes to refresh or deepen his understanding of the cellular basis of cardiac electrophysiology, for researchers interested in the basis of the electrical activity of the heart, such as clinical investigators, physiologists or pharmacologists, for teachers in physiology, pharmacology and other biomedical studies, and for medical students from graduate to postgraduate level. Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology starts with a primer of basic electrophysiology, the cardiac action potential and the physiological basis of the electrocardiogram. Our second aim after having introduced the basic concepts was to continue with giving an overview of the properties of the most important ionic currents in the heart, and to treat their modulation, in order to deal with the mechanisms underlying cardiac ischaemia, arrhythmias and remodelling. Edward Carmeliet and Johan Vereecke, Katholieke University Leuven, Belgium, have collaborated for over 30 years in cardiac electrophysiology research. Their studies include the genesis of the normal action potential, its changes in ischaemia, the effect of drugs, and the mechanism of arrhythmias, using techniques from the classic potential registration with intracellular microelectrodes to whole cell clamp and single channel measurements.

Noninvasive Electrocardiology in Clinical Practice

Emanuela H. Locati , Pierre Masison-Blanche
e altri

editore: Blackwell Futura

pagine: 488

Computerized ECG exams are currently flourishing, and further development of these inexpensive and noninvasive diagnostic tools is expected in upcoming years. Because there is so much clinically relevant and useful information that can be obtained using modern electrocardiology, the editors strongly believe that a book summarizing current state-of-the-art methods of noninvasive electrocardiology will assist physicians in optimizing their clinical practice. Accordingly, the contributors comprise an international "who's who" in noninvasive electrocardiography. The object of noninvasive electrophysiology is to reconcile comprehensive invasive electrophysiology with conventional surface electrocardiography, by extracting from the latter more extensive and dynamic information. Numerous facets of these new orientations are presented in this book, which is organized in two main sections. Part one describes noninvasive ECG tests, their methodology, and applications. Part two focuses on specific clinical conditions and diseases, and allows the reader to learn when it is worth using specific tests and when they are not of much benefit. Clinical cardiologists and electrophysiologists at all levels will benefit from this well-written, informative update.
