Contrast echocardiography in clinical practice
José L. Zamorano , Miguel A. García Fernandez
editore: Springer Verlag
pagine: 299
Echocardiography has now reached its maturity and plays a key role in the clinical assessment of cardiac function. However, its ability to assess myocardial perfusion remains a clinical challenge. Myocardial contrast echocardiography is a technique that uses microbubbles. These microbubbles remain entirely within the intravascular space and their presence in any myocardial region denotes the status of microvascular perfusion within that region. During the last few years, a large number of research studies have been dedicated to this topic. The latest developments in echocardiographic techniques and second-generation contrast agents allow for the potential assessment of myocardial perfusion and provide an accurate endocardial border delineation. In the present book, these new echocardiographic techniques dedicated to the assessment of myocardial perfusion are described in detail by experts from both sides of the Atlantic. Tips and tricks are included, explaining the basic concepts that are needed to understand and perform contrast echocardiography.

The Kidney and Hypertension
George L. Bakris
editore: Informa Healthcare
pagine: 256
Hypertension is common in patients with kidney disease for a number of reasons, including retention, inappropriate action by the renin-angiotensin system, and overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system. Of all causes of hypertension, renal artery stenosis (narrowing) has attracted considerable attention, because it was once thought to be a rare cause of hypertension, but is now known to be the most common cause of secondary hypertension. In The Kidney and Hypertension, George Bakris and a host of international contributors examine all aspects of hypertension in the renal patient. A reference book covering specific and common topics in the area of kidney disease and hypertension, it is an essential guide to the effective management of the renovascular patient. It covers everything from how to properly measure blood pressure to the assessment and treatment of elevated blood pressure in high-risk groups such as dialysis patients and pregnant women. Kidney and Hypertension also thoroughly discusses reducing cardiovascular risk in people with kidney disease due to its role as a leading cause of death among kidney patients. Additionally, there is a chapter on diabetes and its role as a common cause of kidney failure. As an introduction to basic concepts in the treatment of hypertension, Dr. Bakris's book will serve as an excellent reference to nephrologists, cardiologists, and cardiovascular surgeons in their efforts to reduce the risks of advanced kidney disease and cardiovascular disease.
Coronary Disease in Women
Evidence-Based Diagnosis and Treatment
Leslee J. Shaw
,
Rita F. Redberg
e altri
editore: Humana Press Inc.
pagine: 444
An authoritative guide to clinical management of women with known or suspected coronary artery disease. Using an evidence-based approach, the authors apply the latest epidemiological findings and diagnostic tools to the evaluation of stable chest pain and acute ischemic syndromes in women, and detail the therapeutic effectiveness of various treatments in women, such as coronary revascularization, electrophysiology, exercise training and cardiac rehabilitation, and menopausal hormone therapy. Additional chapters examine the effects of gender bias in diagnosis and treatment, the role of gynecologists as primary care physicians for women, health technology assessment in an era of managed care, and the problems of analyzing cost-effectiveness in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease in women.
An Atlas of Multiplane Transesophageal Echocardiography
Alan R. Maniet , Martin G. St. John Sutton
editore: Informa Healthcare
pagine: 984
Focusing on one of the most exciting imaging modalities available in modern clinical cardiology, Atlas of Multiplane Transesophageal Echocardiography provides a comprehensive analysis of this modality drawn from the authors' experience. Designed to cover the breadth and depth of the topic, the book covers the evaluation of prosthesis, interventional cardiology techniques, and intraoperative transesophageal echocardiology. Each chapter begins with normal cardiac structure and function followed by abnormalities and demonstrates how to measure and interpret cardiac chamber sizes and function. Transesophageal echocardiographic images are juxtaposed with top-quality anatomic specimens, nearly 3000 images in total, to give a clear understanding of normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy. The clinical emphasis provides an authoritative review of the available techniques and the images that can be obtained with them.
Rapid ECG Interpretation
M. Gabriel Khan
editore: Saunders (W.B.) Co Ltd
pagine: 352
Dr Khan has improved upon the first edition and written a clear and concise step-by-step method for the accurate interpretation of the ECG. Noted for the unique 11-step method for accurate and rapid ECG interpretation, this new edition includes more diagnostic tips for the understanding of ECGs. New to this edition is a series of illustrations to explain the genesis of wave and deflection of the ECG. In addition, a clear description of 12 lead positioning and interpretation guides the reader to greater understanding of the potential pitfalls of the ECG. This edition includes over 230 illustrations, including 30 new tracings to elucidate difficult points. It also addresses the progress of cardiovascular practice and how the ECG is important to current clinical practice, including early diagnosis of acute MI, and a greater understanding of ST segment in diagnosing cardiovascular problems.
